how does your garden grow?

What Flower
Are You?

…I guess :) One of those fun little quizzes.

While Spring has technically not yet begun, we antsy warm weathered folk have been slowly resuscitating our garden from its “winter” state. With spinach, onions and baby romaine flourishing after our maybe two freezes, we thought it was time to dig up the wilting broccoli, brussel sprouts and tomatoes (save one that has new blossoms on it).

Today we filled the last of the open planting space, adding climbing beans, “listada de gandia” eggplant, “serrano del sol” pepper, “sweet success” cucumber, squash, three tomato varieties, including a “black prince” cherry which Aaron thought I’d like. The compost is spread and the little greenies are all neatly tucked in for the season. It’s always nice to get your hands dirty…well, and feet as the barefooted case may be.

Now for the watering, weeding, and waiting.

Oh how I love to get my hands dirty. I’m one who frequently gardens without gloves because I love to!
We too are getting ready for gardens. I’m a bit behind schedule as I’ve had to dig up sod and start from scratch. Yesterday I started double-digging the first bed that is grass free.
    What fun!

Double-digging garden beds is a technique used to prepare garden beds by loosening and amending soil to a great depth…sometimes up to 2ft. It is beneficial for newly dug beds that are compacted. It helps aerate the soil deeply so that roots can grow deeper.

    umm, i’m a daffodil…

You have a sunny disposition and are normally one of the first to show up for the party. You don’t need too much attention from the host once you get there as you are more than capable of making yourself seen and heard.
